Bonnie and Clyde Festival at Gibsland, Revisited

This is Dixie Lee Sedgwick as Bonnie Parker. The video is from the 2010 Bonnie and Clyde festival in Gibsland, Louisiana, which Erin, Jill and I managed to attend. I am writing an essay about it now, and it's a surreal experience on many levels.

Remembering warms my heart. There was a ten dollar dinner and the historical society meeting. And endlessly, endlessly: country songs dedicated to Bonnie and Clyde. Run away, run fast away... Reenactments of bank robberies, shootouts. Dashing to pick up bullet shells.

Then there was bingo, and Elvis, and toddlers dressed as the outlaw couple. Oh, and (the best thing of all!) I was even kidnapped by the Barrow gang. Right from the crowd. They picked me, they picked me! Obviously because I am foreign, but also - hopefully - because they saw how deeply I felt, how painful and real and important the whole thing was for me.

I want this to replace my identity as a student.
